Residential Renovation towards nearly zero energy CITIES

Genoa, Italy

Genoa is the capital of Liguria and the sixth largest city in Italy, with a population of around 610,000 inhabitants. Considering its metropolitan area, Genoa is one of Europe's largest cities on the Mediterranean Sea and the largest seaport in Italy.

Genoa, which forms the southern corner of the Milan-Turin-Genoa industrial triangle of north-west Italy, is one of the country’s major economic centres. The city has hosted massive shipyards and steelworks since the 19th century.

Within the R2CITIES project, Genoa will guarantee a widespread use of different types of actions, thus ensuring an optimization of the investment both in terms of cost, thanks to the implementation of scaled economies as well as the exploitation of synergies between the various measures in terms of achievable results, exploiting all the potential areas within the concept defined in "Smart Cities".

The geographical location and its characteristics of international city (venue for international events, presence of port and airport, strong international economic relations) will allow Genoa to play a key role in establishing future partnerships, at European level, for the development of "Smart Cities" projects
